Character History:

Marco is first introduced into the series at the initiation of new recruits into the trainee corp. At first he seems happy until their instructor faces him and asks his reasons for joining the military. Even in the face of the intimidation, Marco answers that he wishes to serve the king and join the military police. He has a strong desire to help and serve, unlike many that was to join for safety and status, even when the instructor tells him he isn't wanted. This is a way of testing his desire more strongly. After his crash course into the beginning of his military career, Marco makes it his mission to keep others calm.

So when people begin to bother Eren about the titans and Wall Maria, he's the first to tell them to back off and let Eren have space. Though Eren then expresses wanting to tell the others about it, which then Marco listens quietly. As a trainee Marco quickly becomes friends with Jean and the two of them are nearly always seen together. It's shown that he also gets along well with Sasha, Connie and Armin as well as Eren but his main focused relationship is the one he has with Jean. Marco recognizes Jean's potential and tells him he's a natural leader and that he should embrace it, he was one of the only ones, at first, to really see that Jean had the talent to do so.

When they graduate Marco finishes in the top ten ranked seventh in the entire 104th trainee squad. Since only the top ten can even be looked at to join the Military Police then he is well on his way to realizing his dream. Then the second attack of the colossal titan happens.

The colossal titan, a huge titan unlike any ever seen before, attacks Trost this time and destroys the wall. This leaves the newly graduated recruits in charge of helping to save the city from the attack of titans. Marco is assigned command of the 19th trainee squad and ordered to support the vanguard. Eventually in all of the confusion he becomes stranded with the other trainees when they give an order of retreat. Since none of them have enough gas to scale the walls they are with then left to Jean and Mikasa's plan to charge the headquarters for gas. Marco joins in the plan quickly knowing it's their best choice of actions. There they find that some have taken their own lives and Marco is able to help defuse some of the tense situations.

Unable to reach the gas station they need, since it's overrun with titans, Armin comes up with a plan to reclaim the area and help everyone get out. Marco becomes vital to the man and he excepts the responsibility. Ordered to keep all of the recruits with rifles steady, they are lowered into the room on a elevator box. They can't shoot until the titans are at their absolute closest. As Marco gives the command to wait they act as bait for the recruits above in the rafters so they can kill the titans, since they have to be cut in an exact spot on the back of their necks. On the command he gets everyone to fire and it blinds the titans enough to help save them all and reclaim the room. Once they are successful Marco nearly passes out, since he was able to keep his composure the entire time even when faced with death staring at him.

After this everyone is able to regroup to retreat and Marco still tries to keep order even as other recruits are giving into fear. A guiding light he is able to keep the others calm so they can attack. He tries his best to keep everyone confident and comfort those that need it, even when they are ordered to return to Trost. Back in Trost, Marco joins the others on the wall as they act as bait, once again, to help keep the titans distracted while Eren, in titan form, is involved in an operation. After they do this the last time he is seen alive is when he rescues Jean. When the others gear malfunctions he tell him to remain calm as Marco then lures the titans away from Jean.

Later, when the titans have been removed from Trost, Marco's body is discovered and identified by Jean. With the others that died in battle, his body is cremated and his death becomes Jean's inspiration to abandon his selfishness and join the Survey Corps, claiming he doesn't want to meet a "disappointing end with someone burning his bones without knowing why he died", this was in reference to the fact Marco had died alone and that his death went unnoticed for days.

Abilities/Special Powers: He is human, the only abilities he has is a built body from the use of 3D Maneuvering Gear.

Third-Person Sample:

Honestly Marco had thought this was some form of heaven in his arrival. When he awoke in the hallway he noticed a lack of the pain he had felt back home. Back home he remembered his last moments in a whirlwind of emotion and rush. Some of them were still fuzzy to him and he could remember the moment he had been bit...bit by the titan. It was horrible he knew he had the chance of dying in the military but not so soon. Yet here he didn't feel that pain and when he looked down at his side his arm and body were still there. That was something that could only be explained by being the the after life, or so he thought.

A little cautious still he sat up and with his arm he pressed his hand to the side of his face before he pulled it back. Everything was there...all of him. In a moment of grief he held his legs close to his body as he rested his head on his knees.

Damn...was he even any help?

The thought remained in his mind as he rose his head up to look around. If this was heaven it sure was strange. The brunette noticed all of the mirrors and occasionally he noticed something in this corner of his eye only to turn and see nothing. It didn't seem right.

The urge to investigate pushed him to stand and as he did he looked down the hallway and the many doors lining it. He needed to find others here and maybe the doors held the key?

Marco gulped down the lump in his throat as he began to walk down the hallway. If he could have any luck he hoped he could find some kind of answer in this new place. Maybe even someone he knew, though he wouldn't wish death on any of his friends.

First-Person Sample:

[The device was something he has never seen before and in all reality to Marco it resembles a brick...a brick that lit up. Strange what was it even for. Entirely by accident he turns the device on and stares at the screen as he jumps.]

W-Whoa...This is really amazing!

[There's an excited laugh that escapes him as he flashes a cheerful smile to the screen.]

I guess people can hear and see me...right? If you can I was wondering where am I exactly? I've never seen anything like this before or this place.

Aha. [Still in his cadet jacket and straps he rubs the back of his neck. He wants to mention the fact he thinks this is the afterlife...but he holds off for the moment. Instead he salutes the best he can.]

I'm Marco Bodt of the 104th trainee squad. I look forward to any assistance, thank you.

[Fumbling and turning the screen upside down he soon turns it off. What a weird brick.]

[Relaxing on the bunk he shared with Jean, he took a deep breath in as he closed his eyes. It had been some time since he got the bunk area alone, it was quiet a rare thing really. Though he would mind some company, he just didn't really feel like going out with the others. The training for the day was exhausting and a nap was sounding awesome.

Marco continues to relax for the moment at least until he hears someone enter.]
